Sam - a rescued black lab mix since July 2006 and the relationship that ensues. My daughter, Sarah and I adopted Sam from the Northumberland Humane Society in Port Hope. Initially looking for a small terrier of her choice or similar small dog and checking out several high energy, grounder hounds...we (maybe more me) happened to meet Sam. Sam had approached out of the chaos calmly and directly and nosed gently through the fence. He was in sad condition and noticeably emaciated. While quite larger than the anticipated terrier there was nothing I could other than rationalize the very fact and comment to myself of his easy inviting demure..."Let's look into this one's story." His mannerism was endearing and I was defenseless. Seven weeks and numerous visits later the Society considered him fit enough to leave and we were given charge of Sam - or the perception thereof.
Sam currently weighs in at 105lbs (47kg) and is no longer emaciated.
Here begins my effort to document the evolving relationship between a passively persistent alpha dog and a once rigidly intense dominant dog owner.
